CSBS Education Foundation Helps State Regulators Stay One Step Ahead of Cyber Threats

The cybersecurity threat environment is constantly changing. Luckily, as bad actors discover ever-more-sophisticated ways to target consumer financial data, state regulatory agencies are working with financial institutions to make them more cyber-secure.

Over the past 18 months, the CSBS Education Foundation has traversed the country delivering state-of-the-art cybersecurity training to nearly 800 individual bank examiners. Conducted in tandem with MIS Training Institute (MISTI), an internationally-respected leader in audit and information security training, the program covered diverse topics such as risk profiling and maturity assessments, corrective controls, incident response, business continuity and disaster recovery, third party vendor management and the cloud. In addition to in-depth lectures, participants in the program also worked through realistic scenarios – based on actual events – designed to reinforce concepts and teach effective control design and execution.

Examiners left these sessions with increased awareness of the cyber threats facing financial institutions and better prepared to evaluate control suites protecting consumers' financial data.
