Brokered Deposits
Small (and particularly rural) banks may occasionally seek to obtain deposits through a third-party brokers if local deposits are insufficient to meet the credit needs of
the surrounding community. Brokers act as an intermediary, raising deposits from individuals, businesses, and other financial institutions seeking a return and then bundling them for sale to banks while collecting placement fees.
