New bank formations are a critical component of a healthy banking sector. Since the 2008 financial crisis, de novo bank applications and approvals have declined dramatically compared to pre-crisis levels. CSBS supports streamlining the de novo application and approval process, reevaluating the approach to innovative business models, and including state representatives in the interview phase of the de novo process.
