Specialty Certification
Certified Application Specialist
The Certified Application Specialist (CAS) certifications recognize state regulatory professionals who have demonstrated advanced knowledge, practical experience, and job performance in licensing operations using the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS). Each certification represents a progression in responsibility and expertise—ranging from foundational application review to complex account administration and staff oversight.
CAS-I: MLO Licensing Review
The CAS-I certification is designed for professionals who process and review mortgage loan originator (MLO) license applications. This credential reflects expertise in NMLS navigation, regulatory compliance, application evaluation, and risk assessment. Certified individuals demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a clear understanding of licensing standards that protect consumers and uphold market integrity.
CAS-II: Company & Branch Licensing Review
The CAS-II certification is intended for individuals responsible for reviewing company and/or branch license applications. It emphasizes advanced skills in evaluating organizational structures, financial statements, and control persons, along with the ability to identify risk factors across more complex licensing scenarios. Certification holders are proficient in applying both state-specific and national standards and contribute to process consistency and regulatory best practices across multiple license types.
CAS-III: Agency Account Administrator
The CAS-III certification is awarded to senior professionals who oversee agency licensing operations and serve as system administrators within NMLS. These individuals manage user access, train and supervise staff, analyze workflows, and implement licensing strategy. The certification reflects leadership in aligning agency practices with national standards, mentoring team members, and ensuring effective use of system tools to support regulatory goals.
